Sustainability Efforts In the Park District's continual search for sustainable practices, we have purchased several pieces of battery-operated park maintenance equipment including two backpack blowers, a handheld blower, a string trimmer, pole saw, and a chainsaw. e use of this equipment will reduce the amount of gasoline that we use, as well as the amount of emissions that are released into the air. Also, employees appreciate this equipment since the noise level is significantly reduced compared to gasoline-operated equipment, and they require less maintenance. Solar panels were installed on the roof of the Oak Park Conservatory as part of the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club grant program in late fall of 2018 and on the roof of the Hedges Administrative Center in early January. Carroll Center Addition Carroll Center is currently used for preschool-aged classes, the Clubhouse aerschool program and various general interest programs. e Park District is planning to build an addition to Carroll Center on the south side of the building which will include two classrooms to accommodate the growing need for aerschool and preschool programs and to address the Park District's overall need for more program space. e current tot lot located in this area will be replaced with a new tot lot to the east of the center. e Park District is currently out for bid on this project with construction slated to begin in June 2019 and completed by March 2020. During construction, the Clubhouse aerschool program will be held inside Lincoln School, and the Carroll Center preschool will be relocated to Fox Center. e Park District is currently seeking funding to assist in adding sustainability features to this facility. e cost of the project is included in the Capital Improvement Plan.
