4 www.pdop.org 4 Board of Park District Commissioners Regular Park Board Meetings are generally held on the third ursday of each month and the Committee of the Whole (COW) Meetings are generally held on the first ursday of the month. All meetings are held at 7:30P at the John L. Hedges Administrative Center, 218 Madison Street, Oak Park. Public comment is welcome at these meetings. ere is no COW meeting in August. Gary Cuneen, Executive Director of Seven Generations Ahead and Plan It Green, helped the Park District secure a $100,000 grant from Green Mountain Energy for the addition of solar panels, water harvesting, beehives and tea composting at the Oak Park Conservatory. He also helped the District secure tens of thousands of dollars in energy savings and reduced/free products from ComEd. Frank Heitzman, Pleasant Home Foundation Board member, volunteered countless hours of architecture and design expertise to ensure the materials used and work completed for the Pleasant Home roof restoration project reflected the original roof design. Renee Davis, Maria Kunigk, and Margaret Scully are figure skating moms who donated their time and talents to improve the District's figure skating program through Ice Show scenery design and construction, volunteer recruitment, assisting with the Holiday Skate Exhibition and organizing a skate and equipment exchange. It was an honor to recognize these community leaders at our February Board Meeting. Over $5 Million in Grants Secured In February the Park District was awarded a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the renovation of Stevenson Park. Construction will begin in August on a new entranceway, looped walking path, playground, game table area, bioswale and a soccer/lacrosse practice wall. e project is slated for completion by the end of the year. Since 2007, the Park District has secured over $5 million in grant funds from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to renovate nine District parks including the construction of the Austin Gardens Environmental Education Center. Also during their tenure, the Park District was awarded the National Gold Medal, the most prestigious award in the parks and recreation field.
