About Pleasant Home
Pleasant Home, a National Historic Landmark,
was built in 1897 and is an early example of Prairie
Style architecture. Its architect, George Washington
Maher, a contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright, used
repetitive decorative motifs throughout the house to
make a unified design. e first owner of Pleasant
Home was John Farson who was known as a great
philanthropist and wealthy investment banker.
Visitors from around the world are able to
experience extraordinary examples of restored
art glass, custom furniture, intricate woodwork
which includes many wonderfully carved lions
heads throughout the house. Established in 1990,
the Pleasant Home Foundation is a non-profit
dedicated to restoring, preserving, and operating the
30-room historical house museum.
