29 www.pdop.org Youth Series Programs special interest & events Let's Build It: Chain Reactions - Ready, Set, Roll! ursdays, Apr 2-May 7, 6:30-7:30P Students will construct machines, like the Heavyweight Hammer and the Spin-o-Matic, and then combine them to create an exciting chain reaction! Chain reactions will become more complex with the introduction of new machines. Delve into concepts such as force, gravity, velocity, types of energy, and balance. At session's end, students will be challenged to create the Ultimate Chain Reaction by working cooperatively to see how many machines they can incorporate. No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and build. Awards given to all on the last day of the session along with the opportunity to earn Energy Belts by demonstration their learned skills! Grades 1-6 Res Fee $123 - Fee $143 Location: Andersen Center Supervisor: Megan Ulczak Chess Scholars Tuesdays, Apr 7-May 12, 6:30-7:30P No previous knowledge of chess is necessary; players of all levels are welcome. Consists of fun interactive teaching period-guided practice time. Participants will get to the next level under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. Participants can test for a Chess Belt under a unique Chess Scholars system patterned aer martial arts belts. Chess competition with prizes at the end of the session! Ages 5-12 Res Fee $96 - Fee $116 Location: Andersen Center Supervisor: Megan Ulczak Youth Video Game Club Saturdays, 12:00-2:00P Apr 4 • May 2 Does your child love video games but wants to know what exists past Minecra and Mario Bros.? Send them to Game Club. Every month, we bring in a wide assortment of games and consoles new and old for elementary aged kids. It's a way to try new games and meet other kid gamers. Ages 7-10 Per Session: Res Fee $13 - Fee $18 Location: Fox Center Supervisor: Lucie Harrison Circus Class Series Circus Aerial Arts Tuesdays, Apr 21-May 26 Aerial Arts 1: Tuesdays, 5:45-6:35P Aerial Arts 2: Tuesdays, 6:45-7:35P is progressive Aerial Arts class teaches tricks and stunts straight from the circus and is open to all levels of fitness, beginner and advanced. Students will learn both the trapeze and aerial silks in a fun and exciting environment. It is not only a unique opportunity to try something new, but a great way to improve physical strength and coordination. Enrollment in Aerial Arts 2 requires approval by Circus Coordinator. Park District of Oak Park is launching a new swimming program using Starfish Aquatics Institute, an internationally recognized swim instruction program, where students work at their own pace towards benchmarks for their swimming skills while also understanding water safety.
