41 www.pdop.org Swimming Program Curriculum Begins this Summer! e Starfish Swimming curriculum is designed for students ages 6 months to adult. Benchmarks are established at each stage in the program that combine swimming and safety skills. Students participate in experiential learning activities that allow them to explore the water in a creative and comfortable environment. Correct swimming techniques are taught from the very beginning, providing an easy transition to swim team. StarTots Ages 6-36 months e purpose of this course is to foster in very young children a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents and caregivers in water safety and drowning prevention. is course does not teach children to become accomplished swimmers or to survive in the water; it does provide a confidence- building, fun, and loving experience. Swim School Ages 3-13 Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies and are referred to by color stages. e color stages are used to divide students into broad ability groups. Children progress at individual rates with the opportunity to learn the core swimming skills and progress to advanced strokes. Learning is self-paced but challenging. Stroke School! Students refine freestyle and learn stroke techniques for backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and more! Adult Swim Lessons is adults-only class is for those with a wide variety of swim abilities looking to learn how to swim or become more proficient. Participants will be split based on ability and goals, instruction will range from fundamental skills to stroke development. Lap Swim Swimmers will be able to come swim laps once a week. Swimmers must be 16 years of age or older. Age exemptions must approved by the Aquatics Manager or Aquatics Supervisor and an adult 16 years of age must remain on deck at all times with the exempt swimmer. No additional spectators will be admitted.
