Come try something new, get moving, and have fun with it! It is for all ages so bring your family, friends, or even by yourself ! No dance experience necessary. All ages welcome! Natya Dance Theatre Saturday, Apr 15, 1:00-2:30P Natya Dance eatre (NDT), is amongst the most critically acclaimed and culturally treasured Indian dance companies in the United States. Rooted in Bharata Natyam, one of the great classical dance theater forms of India, NDT preserves and perpetuates Bharata Natyam in all its classical rigor, but with contemporary interpretations which incorporate dynamic body movement, rhythmic footwork, hand gestures and facial expressions to convey meaning and emotion that create rasa, the aesthetic experience that transforms the audience. ere will be a 60-minute master class followed by a 20-minute demonstration/history presentation. Location: Stevenson Center Res Fee $22 - Fee $27 Aztec Dance Workshop- Xochitl Queztal Danza Azteca Saturday, May 6, 11:30A-12:30P e name of our group means "Precious Flower" in Nahuatl, the Aztec language. Our group of children and adults dances and sings the indigenous music of the Aztec and Mexican people of Mexico – music that has been passed down over centuries. ere will be a short performance followed by a 45-minute master class where you will learn several dances. Location: Stevenson Center Res Fee $28 - Fee $37 Hawaiian Dance Workshop: Halua I Ka Pono "the Hula School of Chicago" Saturday, May 20, 1:00-2:30P Halua I Ka Pono is a Hawaiian dance studio based locally in Oak Park. ey are dedicated to growing aloha by sharing Hawaiian culture and stories through the joy of Hula. e dance workshop will focus on footwork, hand motions, and then integrate hands with feet in a basic hula. ere will be a 60-minute master class followed by a 20-minute demonstration/history presentation. Location: Stevenson Center Res Fee $27 - Fee $36 AfriCaribe Workshop Saturday, June 10, 11:30A-1:00P AfriCaribe is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, research, promotion, and development of the Puerto Rican and Caribbean cultures through music, dance, theater, and other artistic media. While reflecting the influence of other ethnic and cultural groups, AfriCaribe's primary focal point is the African culture of the Caribbean. ere will be a 60-minute master class followed by a 20-minute demonstration/history presentation. Location: Stevenson Center Res Fee $30 - Fee $39 Saol Academy of Irish Dance Workshop Saturday, Jul 15, 11:30A-1:00P e Gaelic word "saol" (pronounced "sail") translates to "life", and is the belief that Irish Dance can provide experiences that will positively impact your life. e dance workshop will teach traditional Irish Step Dancing which establishes familiarity with the music, foot placement, body alignment, and basic steps of Irish Dance. ere will be a 60-minute master class followed by a 20-minute demonstration/history presentation. Location: Stevenson Center Res Fee $20 - Fee $25 Chicago Steppin' Workshop Saturday, Aug 12, 1:00-2:30P Steppin' originated in Chicago as a dance referred to as the BOP. It is a smooth calm dance of striding, gliding, and dipping. e workshop will be led by a member of the StepinChi community. ere will be a 60-minute master class followed by a 20-minute demonstration/history presentation.
