22 www.pdop.org YOUTH DANCE Our programming provides a high-quality, affordable performing arts education in a fun and interactive format that builds, community, positive self- awareness and rhythmic interpretation of music. This helps to create physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. Our spring/summer session will culminate in a spring recital which the students will prepare for in each class. All dates, times and locations are subject to change. Please check when registering. Spring Session: Apr 2-Jun 1 (no class 5/29) Spring Recital: Dancin' rough the Decades- Saturday, Jun 3 • Dress rehearsal, Jun 2. Dates subject to change. • Note: Everyone receives a costume as part of the registration fee. If you don't wish to participate in the Spring Recital you can receive a refund for the costume fee. Contact erin.coffman@pdop.org by Apr 15 if you wish to receive a refund for the costume fee. Summer Session: Jun 24-Jul 29 (no class 7/4) Baton Twirling Twirling incorporates dance, agility, coordination and flexibility while manipulating a single baton or multiple batons. is fun and energetic beginner level class combines both twirl and dance activities. e purchase of a baton ($25) will be required. Participants will be measured for a baton the first day of class. Includes an optional opportunity to perform in the Memorial Day Parade in Downtown Chicago on Saturday, May 27. Dance & Skate Saturday mornings can be filled with this new combo class offering dance and skating! Participants will start with a dance class, followed by a short break and then a skate class. Both classes will help children learn how to control and use their bodies, relate to other children, and express themselves through introductory skill work in dance and skating. • Ballet II, Ages 10-15 (Pair with Basic 5 or above skating class) • Pre-Ballet, Ages 3-5 (Pair with a Snowplow Sam skating class) • Hip Hop & Tumbling, Ages 6-9 (Pair with a Basic 2-4 skating class) NOTE: You can sign up for just the dance or skate classes on their own, if you do not wish to take both. Ballet Learn the foundations of ballet to enhance coordination, balance, strength, flexibility and creative expression. Prepares the early dance student by exploring music and movement. Jazz Enjoy a popular, fun energetic form of dance to all of your favorite tunes. Learn various styles of jazz techniques including classical, contemporary, and musical theatre. Hip Hop Explore basic hip hop styles ranging from funk, house, popping/locking, and breaking. Learn how to move like your favorite dancers on So You ink You Can Dance, World of Dance, and more! Tumbling Dancers develop strength coordination, and self- confidence through basic tumbling skills and dance class structure. Tap Learn to tap like Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Dancers will be training their musical ear as well as their feet using rhythm, syncopation, and sound in addition to movement.
