5 PARK RENEWAL PROJECTS Park Site Planning To view details on any of these plans or processes, please visit www.pdop.org. Carroll Park In March the Park Board accepted a revised Carroll Park site plan in preparation for Phase II park improvements slated to begin in August. The original 2005 plan calls for ball field improvements including a new backstop, new spectator and player areas with shade structures, field irrigation and regrading. The updated plan includes a children's discovery area with boulders for sitting and climbing to be located north of the Kenilworth Avenue cul-de-sac. Construction is expected to last from August through November 2014, but the field will not be re-opened until April 2015 to allow the turf time to get well established. Fox Park Residents revisited the Fox Park master plan at a community meeting in February. Planned improvements scheduled to be completed in August focus on the ball fields including a new backstop, new spectator and player areas with shade structures, installation of an irrigation system and field regrading. Suggestions from the community meeting included additional benches which will be included part of this summer's park renovation. The suggestion of shade structures in the playground area will be addressed in Phase III improvements. Longfellow Park A community meeting was held in March to revisit the Longfellow Park master plan that was originally developed in 2007. Residents were in support of the planned improvements including redeveloped ball field spectator and player areas with shade structures, a new winged backstop and fencing around the south end of the park. An irrigation system is already in place in the Longfellow field however some minor regrading will be completed as part of this Phase II renovation project. The Park District has scheduled these improvements to be completed in August 2014. Phase III improvements, currently scheduled for 2017, include tennis court redevelopment to bring the courts to regulation size and new tennis court lighting. Field Park You are invited to a community meeting on Tuesday, October 28 at 7pm at Field Center to review the original Field Park master plan. Current Park Projects Pleasant Home's Summer Dining Porch Guided by historic photographs and in-depth documentation, the year-long restoration of Pleasant Home's Summer Dining Porch encompassed interior, exterior, and structural improvements. This project, completed in March 2014, highlights the master craftsmanship of many trades including mosaic tile, stained glass, plaster work, and finish carpentry. Visitors to this National Historic Landmark can enjoy the space in its original beauty which reflects the elegance and grace of 19th century architecture. The Summer Dining Porch project was funded through an Illinois Public Museum Capital Grants Program managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Visit www.pleasanthome.org for more information. Lindberg Park Renovation Project Linderg Park is one of the last Park District parks to undergo renovation since the passing of the Renew Our Parks referendum in 2005. Phase I improvements include a new park shelter, renovation of the tennis courts, development of a looped trail system, a new playground, renovation of the ball fields, creation of a dedicated field solely for soccer-lacrosse and an educational native plant area. The majority of the park, excluding the trial garden area, will be closed during the duration of the project expected to begin July 14 and completed by the end of the year. This project is partially funded through a $400,000 Open Space and Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant Program which provides matching dollars for outdoor recreation space projects throughout Illinois. Cheney Mansion Greenhouse Project Look for the renovation to begin on the Cheney Mansion greenhouse in May 2014 including replacement of glazing and related framing, restoration of the ventilation systems, a new concrete floor, masonry tuck-pointing, and the addition of double doors on the north side of the greenhouse for easy access. Additionally a restroom will be added on the south side of the greenhouse and minor abatement work will be completed prior to the commencement of construction. Renovation is anticipated to be completed in August. Did You Know?
