27 About RCRC Hockey Programs The Park District of Oak Park offers hockey classes and leagues for youth and adults that are designed for both beginning skaters and advanced hockey players. The hockey program is a great way to develop a unique skill, stay active, and develop a love for the best game on ice. Our rejuvenated youth hockey program introduces new levels with skill work designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating and progressively advance to more difficult skills with the stick and puck. Registration: Youth Hockey This program is taught through a specific skill work progression. Registration for class should be done in order starting with level 1 unless the participant already has hockey experience. Participants with some hockey experience should compare their current or most recent class skill work to the level descriptions and register for the level that most closely compares. The Polar Bear Hockey League should not be entered until participants successfully complete the Advanced class. Level Evaluation Day W, Aug 20, from 2-3pm Youth hockey participants unsure of what level to register for should attend this level evaluation day. This session will help determine what level is best based on their current abilities. After working with skaters on the ice, instructors will provide a level recommendation for registration. Ice Bears Travel Hockey Travel Hockey is designed for players with experience in the sport who are ready to take their game to the next level. This league competes against other organizations as part of the North West Hockey League (NWHL). Players are divided by birth year and evaluated based on skill level to produce equal teams at each level where players receive balanced ice time. Each team averages two practices and one game a week. Registration for returning players started July 9th. Registration for new players starts July 25th. ONE GOAL: Hockey Equipment The Park District of Oak Park Hockey Academy partners with the One Goal Organization to provide starter sets of equipment for players new to the game or unable to participate due to the high cost of equipment. Full sets of equipment (not including a stick) can be rented in two different sizes generally fitting 4-8 year olds.
