83 Accecssibility The Park District of Oak Park welcomes the opportunity to assist residents and visitors with disabilities to enjoy our facilities, programs and services. The Park District is a public entity as defined under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibits the District from discriminating against individuals with disabilities (as defined by the ADA) in all programs, activities, and services. We are committed to complying with all applicable provisions of Title II as well as all other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. The Park District works closely with our partner, West Suburban Special Recreation Association, who provides recreation programs for adults and children with physical impairments, mental disabilities, or any other type of disability. Residents of all ages with disabilities can participate in year-round programming specifically designed to meet their individual needs through inclusion support of Park District programs and participation in WSSRA programs. To request an inclusion aide for a Park District of Oak Park program, please indicate your request on the program registration form which can be completed online at pdop.org or in-person. All persons registering for Park District programs/ activities, or using Park District property thereby agrees that any photograph or videotape taken by the Park District may be used by the Park District for promotional purposes including its electronic media, videotapes, brochures, flyers and other publications without additional, prior notice or permission and without compensation to the participant. The museum includes a period bedroom, a children's activity room, and changing exhibits on fashion and area history. The Historical Society has a collection of thousands of photographs, costumes and artifacts that make the area's history come alive. The collection is accessible through special programs, exhibits, and the Gale Research Center by appointment. Museum hours are Th-Su, 12:30-2:30pm. Admission is $5 for adults. Featured exhibits in the Society's Museum on the second floor of Pleasant Home are Tarzan (pictured at right), Mars, and the Fertile Mind of Edgar Rice Burroughs and The Roots of Oak Park, an exhibit that traces the early days of the community until 1902. The Historical Society of Oak Park & River Forest 217 Home Avenue, Oak Park IMPORTANT INFORMATION Marking Life's Milestones: Trees, Benches & More Looking for a unique way to commemorate a birth, celebrate a special occasion, or remember a friend or loved one? You can remember these special people or mark these distinctive events by purchasing a personalized plaque at the base of a tree, park bench or other park amenity at one of the many Park District park sites. With many park renovation projects currently underway or in the planning stages, there is a wide variety of landscape amenities and locations from which to choose. This program is overseen by the Memorial Trust Committee. Over 500 plaques honoring loved ones and special events have been placed throughout the park system. For plaque installation in the fall, orders are due by July 1.
