Vegetable Gardening Made Easy

where to start? Do the seed catalogs overwhelm
you? Do you have some space but not sure where to
plant things? This is the workshop for you! Learn
about the easiest veggies for beginners, how to
read seed packets, how to start seeds, companion
planting techniques, how to transplant seedlings,
and what to do once your seeds start growing.
Leave this workshop with a plan for your garden
and some started seeds. Feel free to bring your
own seeds for a seed exchange at the end of the
workshop. This workshop is approved for Univeristy
of Illinois Extension continuing education units.

Genetically Modified Foods 101
Supervisor: Scott Stewart, Ph.D.
Learn the skinny on genetically modified foods, also
known as GMO foods. Why are GMOs considered
advantageous? How could GMOs be detrimental?
Particular emphasis will be placed on how GMO
foods are labeled in our grocery stores and markets,
and learning resources will be distributed on how
you can learn to identify GMO and non-GMO foods
and food ingredients. Participants will learn and
have the opportunty for a discussion forum on the
pros and cons of this use of plant biotechnology.

Terrarium Construction

Create a self-supporting, small ecosystem to take home
and enjoy for many months. Terrariums duplicate
conditions found in gardens, are easy to assemble, and
a great way to teach young children to observe nature.
Build your own terrarium to take home and gain the
knowledge you need to care and nourish your new
terrarium. This workshop is approved for University
of Illinois Extension continuing education units.
