25 About Paul Hruby Ice Arena Hockey Programs The Park District of Oak Park offers hockey classes and leagues for youth and adults that are designed for both beginning skaters and advanced hockey players. The hockey program is a great way to develop a unique skill, stay active, and develop a love for the best game on ice. Our new and improved youth hockey program introduces new levels with skill work designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating and progressively advance to more difficult skills with the stick and puck. Registration: Youth Hockey This program is taught through a specific skill work progression. Registration for class should be done in order starting with level 1 unless the participant already has hockey experience. Participants with some hockey experience should compare their current or most recent class skill work to the level descriptions and register for the level that most closely compares. The Polar Bear Hockey League should not be entered until participants successfully complete Hockey Academy Advanced class. Ice Bears Travel Hockey Travel Hockey is intended for players with experience in the sport who are ready to take their game to the next level. This league competes against other organizations as part of the North West Hockey League (NWHL). Players are divided by birth year and evaluated based on skill level to produce equal teams at each level where players receive balanced ice time. Each team averages two practices and one game a week. Spring season runs from mid-March through the end of May. Registration packets will be available in late Dec. Registration for returning players starts Jan. 12. Registration for new players starts Feb. 2. Hockey Coordinator Jack Wood hockey@pdop.org Rat Hockey Drop-in times are available for hockey players to play a pick-up game or work on individual skills.
