9 Art Mania (Grades 1-3, 4-7) This mixed media class combines art and science and encourages creativity. Participants will create sculptures, use recyclable materials, create edible art, work on printmaking techniques, as well as painting and drawing. Ceramics (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Students will learn basic hand-building techniques and how to glaze and fire their finished works. This class will focus on various age-appropriate projects created by the instructor and modified for each individual's skill level. Students will also be encouraged to come up with their own creative ideas within each project! Creative Cooking (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Food is the center of our lives and healthy food that looks good and tastes great enhances our life. From colorful smoothies, veggie pizzas, gluten free snacks, and more, young chefs will create weekly treats, a take home cook book, and explore the importance of a balanced diet. Creative Writing & Reading Workshop (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Let's find the stories inside you! Using instructor-led discussions, hands-on activities, and more, students will get creative writing poems, cartoons, short stories and more. We'll also read and discuss short stories and articles to help participants get inspired through reading. Dance Jams (Grades 1-3) Learn how to dance in sync with a group like you see on the Disney channel. Explore your own unique dance moves, learn some new dance steps, and "jam" to a variety of music. Focus will be on creating a solid dance foundation of proper technique. Dancers will also perform in the session ending SCAW Showcase! Dance - Intro to Choreography (Grade 4-7) Dance development will go well beyond just stringing together movements! Students will learn the basics of choreography by exploring basic ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance techniques, and transform their ideas into movement and a sectioned, choreographed dance to perform! Everybody Rocks (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Electric guitars, drums, bass, and vocals give students the chance to experiment with rock band instruments and build musical skills while learning songs of their choosing. Students will start with the fundamentals of playing instruments and develop these skills into an end of the session rock performance. No instrument rental neccessary; class includes use of rock instruments. Sculpture (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Utilizing household items and traditional artist materials students will get their creative juices flowing as they transform these materials into 3-dimensional masterpieces. Spanish (Grades 1-3, 4-7) SCAW Spanish will increase proficiency in all aspects of the language in a fun environment through games, activities, and real life connections! All levels from novice to intermediate welcome - instructor will gauge skills levels and understanding and tailor instruction as needed. Stop Motion Animation (Grades 4-7) Discover the secrets behind stop-motion animation! In teams of four, kids create their own video in MovieMaker with toys and clay, adding special effects and audio - building and discussing coding and principles in action! Theatre Concepts (Grades 4-7) Sharpen your wit and improvisation skills with fun and exciting theater games. Participants will also spend time writing and creating theatrical characters, mini-skits, and a final performance. Theater (Grades 1-3) Young actors will perform a narrated story that they create throughout the session. Daily lessons include fun theater games, exploring emotions on stage, basic stage directions, use of props, and more. Sign up tp be your favorite character today! Video Game Design (Grades 4-7) We'll use drag and drop actions and Gamemaker 8.1 to create a professional video game, complete backgrounds, animated graphics, sound effects and music. Kids will work in teams of two as they build, investigate and discuss coding principles in action. Mad Science: Inventors (Grades 1-3, 4-7) With a little bit of ingenuity, children will create catapults and forts, construct working light sticks to take home and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs. While Thomas Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, this workshop is 100% FUN! Mural Project (Grades 1-3, 4-7) A lot a work goes into planning a mural, be a part of it! With an instructor's help, participants will come up with a plan, location, and material for the mural. Nature Art & Sculpture (Grades 1-3, 4-7) We will combine materials from the great outdoors with items such as paint, yarn, chalk, and clay! Careful understanding of nature and protecting our habitat will be part of the curriculum. Paper and Fabrics (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Combing paper with the use of fabrics go hand in hand; join us this summer as we weave our way through new techniques with the art of textiles. We'll make & dye our own paper for journaling, collaging, writing letters, or even origami or basketweaving! Printmaking (Grades 1-3, 4-7) From monotype to multiples, we will learn different printmaking techniques and terminology as we pull prints. Printmaking can be done using household materials, through carving wood or simple glue & yarn templates. For the upper grades more advanced tools will be used; safety will be part of the curriculum. Recycled Art (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Through the use of reclaimed books, bottle caps, buttons, cans, utensils and more will be transformed into ART. Your artist will be asked to provide materials from home to help plan their refurbished forms - empty out the junk drawer and clear out the basement! Science & Math Workshop (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Engineer your way through experiments, making predictions, learning vocabulary, and charting conclusions. Inspire your natural curiosity through hands-on learning while learning real-world functionality! Science Creations (Grades 1-3, 4-7) From found objects to paints to charcoal to chalk and more; students will create mediums from scratch to design original artwork, learn the history and science of mediums over the decades and how to maintain and restore materials.
