20 Counselor in Training Program Ages 14-16 Supervisor: Mike Loszach The Counselor-In-Training program is for teens who are ready to take on a leadership role and learn to care for children in a summer camp setting. With staff guidance and encouragement, CIT's will work with youth, lead games and crafts, and assist on field trips. Besides helping campers in your community have an awesome summer, being a CIT looks great on a resume and may even help you land that paid camp counselor position you've been dreaming of. With two sessions of pre-camp training and two-week session options throughout the summer, your teen is sure to find a leadership opportunity that fits his or her schedule! Schedule The CIT program features a combination of leadership training and hands-on learning. CIT's begin each week with a CIT training session from 10am to 12pm at Ridgeland Common. CIT's will then head to their assigned camp to spend the afternoon with their campsite, or head home and start fresh at the beginning of the camp day on Tuesday. Interview & Registration Teens should register for pre-season training, as well as their preferred campsite and sessions. We take fun seriously and hope prospective Park District of Oak Park CIT's do too! To ensure a great fit for the sum- mer, all CIT applicants meet with camp leadership for a brief interview during their leadership training. These interviews provide prospective CITs with the chance to show that they have a great attitude and are excited to be a part of the CIT program. We take our camps seriously and want to ensure that our CITs are positive role modes for the kids in our community! This year we are offering two sessions of pre-camp training for optimum convenience for our busy CIT's. Leadership Training is required to participate as a CIT and incurs an additional cost. In the same way we require our Camp Counselors, Supervisors, and Coordinators to go through train- ing every summer, we also expect our CITs to go through leadership training every summer (even if they have already attended leadership training in a past summer). Fees The CIT program fees include a base fee for the pre- season leadership training and program materials ($175/$263), and a session fee that is equivalent to $26R/$39 NR per week.
