74 www.pdop.org Pleasant Home A Historic Property of the Park District of Oak Park, operated by the Pleasant Home Foundation About Pleasant Home Pleasant Home is a National Historic Landmark building designed in 1897 by noted Prairie School architect George W. Maher for investment banker and philanthropist John W. Farson. Pleasant Home is one of the earliest and most distinguished examples of Prairie architecture in the country and has one of the best-preserved interiors of that design era. Visitors experience the extraordinary art glass, custom furniture, intricately carved woodwork, and unique design details in this historical and architectural treasure through guided tours. The Pleasant Home Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1990, is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and operating this 30-room architectural landmark as a historic house museum. Tours Tours are offered year-round to individuals and groups. School groups are welcome. Our tour program is the perfect hands-on learning experience to complement a curriculum encompassing history, arts, or architecture. Pleasant Home can also provide breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner for group tours. Wheelchair lift available. John Farson, a civic leader in the Oak Park community, was the original owner of the home and frequently opened his residence and grounds for grand gatherings. ADULT INTEREST Lecture Series at the Oak Park Main Library Thursdays at 7pm, February 18 and 25, March 3 and 10 Noted architects and historians will provide engaging lectures highlighting upcoming architectural day trips in 2016 including Park Ridge, IL, Polo, IL, and Gary, IN. Co-hosted in partnership with the Oak Park Public Library, located at the Main Library, Veterans Room. Free and open to the public. Murder Mystery at Pleasant Home Friday, February 26, 2016 at 7:30pm $45 per person/$40 PHF members Take a step back in time and join us for a unique, interactive evening that will be to die for….The year is 1905 and a traveling vaudeville troupe is perform- ing at the Warrington Opera House. It's the first stop on their Midwest tour circuit but during their stay in Oak Park, the troupe's manager is murdered and now the performers themselves are the main suspects! Was it the Pianist, the Dancer, the Singer, or the Magician? This mysterious evening will include a 'vaudeville' performance, the opportunity to interact with per- formers as guests attempt to solve the case, and light food & drink. Reservations available at pleasanthome.org Tour & Tea By appointment Pleasant Home Foundation and Serenitea Café present "Tour & Tea" for small groups of two to six guests in- cluding an hour long guided tour of Pleasant Home and a warm, relaxing formal tea in front of our historic fire place or in one of our other many beautiful spaces. Complete with a personalized tea pot, finger sand- wiches and small desserts. By appointment, $40 per person, reservations required at least 3 days in advance. Twilight Tours 2nd Thursdays in 2016: January 7, February 11, March 10 Experience the beauty of historic Pleasant Home at night! Bring your friends and take this rare opportu- nity to tour the mansion after dark. The evening will include a wine & cheese reception with live music, while docents give station tours of the many beauti- ful rooms located on the first floor. Reservations available at www.pleasanthome.org. $30 ($25 Foundation members) Theatrical Piano Concert by Thom- as Holmes Friday, December 11 at 7:30pm The extraordinarily gifted composer and pianist Thomas Holmes is returning to Pleasant Home to perform a dynamic selection of musical works and original compositions. In addition to his own pieces, Thomas will perform Chopin's Revolutionary Etude while sipping tea, Chopin's Black Keys Etude (op. 10 no. 5 in G flat major) using an orange to hit the keys in the treble clef, and will even perform a duet with Pleasant Home's very own Violano Virtuoso!
