Pleasant Home is an architectural gem that showcases the extraordinary crasmanship and artistry of another era. It is the perfect setting for audience members to enjoy the classic charm of silent films with live piano accompaniment by omas Holmes, an extremely talented, Chicago-area musician and composer. Walk & Talk with George Maher Miller Beach, Indiana June 5 Take a walk through time and experience two of George W. Maher's masterpieces (Maher was the architect of Pleasant Home) in Miller Beach, Indiana. e Marquette Park Pavilion and Gary Bathing Beach Aquatorium will be toured with interpretation by an expert guide. June Revel Gala Benefiting Pleasant Home Foundation Saturday, June 25 at 6pm Join the Pleasant Home Foundation as they celebrate the spirit of wanderlust with a "Gypsy Caravan" theme. e cocktail style event includes food and beverage, live music, unique entertainment, raffle and silent auction! Ice Cream Social Sunday, August 7 from 1-4pm In partnership with the Pleasant District Association and the Park District of Oak Park, Pleasant Home Foundation presents their 3rd annual Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social! Children and kids-at-heart experience turn-of-the-century toys, games and chores - compliments of the Historical Society of OPRF - while enjoying blue grass music and, of course, ice cream! Pleasant Home A Historic Property of the Park District of Oak Park, operated by the Pleasant Home Foundation About Pleasant Home Pleasant Home is a National Historic Landmark building designed in 1897 by noted Prairie School architect George W. Maher for investment banker and philanthropist John W. Farson. Pleasant Home is one of the earliest and most distinguished examples of Prairie architecture in the country and has one of the best-preserved interiors of that design era. Visitors experience extraordinary art glass, custom furniture, intricately carved woodwork, and unique design details in this architectural treasure through guided tours. e Pleasant Home Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1990, is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and operating this 30-room landmark as a historic house museum. Tours Tours are offered year-round to individuals and groups, including school groups. Our tour program is the perfect hands-on learning experience to complement a curriculum encompassing history, arts, or architecture. John Farson, a civic leader in the Oak Park community, was the original owner of the home and frequently opened his residence and grounds for grand gatherings.
