About Pleasant Home Pleasant Home is a National Historic Landmark building designed in 1897 by noted Prairie School architect George W. Maher for investment banker and philanthropist John W. Farson. Pleasant Home is one of the earliest and most distinguished examples of Prairie architecture in the country and has one of the best-preserved interiors of that design era. Visitors experience extraordinary art glass, custom furniture, intricately carved woodwork, and unique design details in this architectural treasure through guided tours. e Pleasant Home Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1990, is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and operating this 30-room landmark as a historic house museum. Tours Tours are offered year-round to individuals and groups, including school groups. Our tour program is the perfect hands-on learning experience to complement a curriculum encompassing history, arts, or architecture. Edgar Allan Poe Dramatic Reading October 20 & 21 Two shows each evening - 7pm and 8:30pm $25 tickets/$20 PHF members Enjoy an evening of Edgar Allan Poe classics, dramatically performed in different rooms of Historic Pleasant Home. Guests will be treated to theatrical readings of e Black Cat, e Raven, and e Oval Portrait. Intermission will include a small wine and cheese reception. Petite Boutique Holiday Market November 11: 4pm to 9pm November 12: 10am to 4pm Free & open to the public Get an early start on your holiday shopping! Pleasant Home's annual Petite Boutique Holiday Market features local artisans selling unique handcraed gi items and gourmet foods. Friday evening will also include beverages for purchase from Marion Street Cheese Market and live musical entertainment. Arts & Crafts Beer Parlour November 18, 7-9pm $35 tickets/$30 PHF members Savor fresh, tasty beer from local microbreweries while surrounded by the opulent architecture of historic Pleasant Home. Guests will find a little piece of cra beer heaven in each of the mansion's awe-inspiring rooms while local musicians create a lively environment for a truly entertaining evening. Guests must be 21 or over. Tour & Tea By appointment Pleasant Home Foundation and Serenitea Café present "Tour & Tea" for small groups of two to six guests including an hour long guided tour of Pleasant Home and a relaxing formal tea in one of our many beautiful spaces. Complete with a personal or individual tea pot, finger sandwiches and small desserts. By appointment, $40 per person, reservations required at least 3 days in advance.
