5 www.pdop.org Park Renewal Projects Euclid Square Park Renovation e northern end of Euclid Square Park is currently closed for renovation. With the help of a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, a new, ADA-accessible playground with a rubberized safety surface is being installed as well as new tennis courts lined for tennis and pickle ball. Improvements to the looped walking path will be made and native plantings and a rain garden will be added for improved "green" management of surface water run-off. e Park District anticipates completion of the Euclid Square Project in August 2017. Volunteers from Kids Around the World dismantle the old Euclid Square Park playground. is equipment, donated by the Park District, will be refurbished and then donated to an underserved part of the world. e old Maple Park playground, replaced in 2016, was donated to a village in Zambia. What Grade Did Your Park Receive? Every year Park District staff, on two separate visits, grade each of our parks on such factors as paths & sidewalks, passive green space, lighting, landscaping, cleanliness and more. In 2016 overall our parks system received a score of 84 or a "B" for its current condition. Landscaping and various park surfaces are prevalent issues that need improvement. Travis Stephen Recognized Travis Stephen, the Park District's Sports Field Manager, recently received the 2016 Field of the Year award by the Illinois Sports Turf Managers Association for Longfellow Park. e award is given each year to recognize a sports turf field in the state of Illinois that is managed with a professional effort leading to an exceptional degree of maintenance and a quality appearance. To be recognized with this award is an outstanding accomplishment. Since joining the Park District staff 3 years ago, Travis and his team have made significant improvements to our athletic fields leading to increased playability through natural turf care practices. Long fellow Park athletic field, 2016 Field of the Year Improved Access to Fox Center e south entrance to Fox Center, including the stairs and the ramp, are being replaced for improved access similar to the work that was just completed at Longfellow Center. e entrance is expected to be closed through early June. To enter the building, use the north entrance through the playground. is project is identified in the Park District's ADA Transition Plan and funded through our capital improvement plan.
