The Park District of Oak Park's
New POWER OF PLAY INITIATIVE
As Fall approaches, so does the perfect opportunity to enjoy our parks and programs before the snow arrives.
Fall programs at the Park District of Oak Park are primed and ready to continue building on all the new adventures and successes
from the summer. Physical activity shouldn't stop when the weather changes, we challenge you to change your activity! Sampling
and changing activities has been shown to improve physical literacy, overall wellness, and reduce health related complications. Did
you know the United States has the highest prevalence of overweight and obese children (male and female) compared to 16 of our
peer countries? The future of health, wellness, and health care spending lies in the balance if these trends continue. But did you know
we can change this?! The variety of Park District of Oak Park programs and open park space tap into essential skill building that will
extend beyond the teen years and lay a foundation for an active adulthood. We are committed to providing recreation opportunities to
help change this trend and create a healthier future for the Oak Park community.
In this program guide, you will find several programs for ages 5-12 accompanied by one of six Power of Play symbols (see left column).
These skills are integral ingredients in developing physically literate youth. By participating in programs which focus on refining each
of these skills each season, our youth will be well on their way to being active for life. That is the POWER of Play.
