e Ice Bears hockey season begins
in March and runs through June
with a NWHL tournament. Players
in this program will also have the
opportunity to participate in other tournaments
throughout the season as well. ere are no 'cuts'
or tryouts for this team. Registration is taken on a
first come, first served basis. If there are more than
one team at a level, an evaluation will be held in an
effort to create two equal teams as opposed to an
'A Team' and 'B Team'. New Players must attend a
pre-evaluation.
How do I know if I'm ready for
Ice Bears?
e Ice Bears look to take recreational hockey
players and give them the travel hockey experience.
Players should be confident skaters and have a basic
knowledge of rules of the game. e Ice Bears are
the next step for players participating in the PBHL
(Polar Bear Hockey League) for multiple sessions.
Players brand new to the league must attend a pre-
season skate.
Registration is done in a tiered

Polar Bear Hockey League (PBHL)
Ages 5-14
Supervisor: Kayla Fauria
e Polar Bear Hockey League or PBHL has been
revised to provide an opportunity for our hockey
players to actually play the game. ese cross ice
games will feature roughly 15 minutes of game
overview followed by 45 minutes of play (three
12-minute periods). e Park District of Oak
Park program believes that 1 weekly lesson is not
enough to become better a hockey player and must
be complemented by more practice, ice time, and
play. As such, signing up for a hockey lesson for
the instruction should be complemented by PBHL
game play where players can learn to apply their
skills. PBHL is also an excellent segway for those
players wishing to get a feel for the game aspect
before beginning a travel program, but also enough
for those not wishing to travel.
