Ridgeland Common is the first pool/indoor ice arena facility in the state to receive such an honor. LEED is a green building certification that measures the sustainability of a building. e Park District of Oak Park incorporated multiple sustainable concepts into the design and construction of RCRC including dedicated parking stalls for carpooling, native landscaping requiring less maintenance and irrigation, a highly reflective metal roof, reuse of the existing roof above the ice arena and a high-efficiency HVAC system. During RCRC renovation, the general contractor diverted 75% of construction demolition and debris from landfill facilities and utilized more than 10% of new building materials with recycled content. Originally designed as a Silver LEED certified facility, solar panels were added to the roof in December 2016 through a partnership with Realgy, LLC, an alternative energy service supplier. e RCRC is the second LEED certified Park District facility. e Austin Gardens Environmental Education Center received Platinum LEED certification in earlier this year.
