9 www.pdop.org Scholarships for All Ages Scholarship funds for all ages are available to assist low-income individuals and families in participating in Park District of Oak Park programs. ese funds are provided by the Park District of Oak Park and by the Oak Park Township. Key scholarship program details include: • Oak Park residency is required, as well as meeting financial requirements • Funding for up to 75% of program fees • Funding limits are by family member *Please view the online Scholarship Application for details. A simple reminder to recycle your program guide at the end of the season. in our parks New Sculpture Installation A sculpture called "e Gate" by artist Michael D. Brown was installed in Mills Park on November 5. e Gate was purchased by the Village from the Navy Pier International Exhibit and originally installed on Lake Street in the early 2000s. It was de-installed when e Emerson property was under construction and stored at the Village Public Works department. Now owned by the Park District, this limestone sculpture has a new home in Mills Park near the Mills Tower park entrance. Barrie Center Solar Panels Barrie Center is the sixth facility in the Park District using solar power with the installation of solar panels on the Barrie roof in early 2020. is 7.20 Kwh system will provide over 50% of the building's energy. In addition to Barrie Center, solar power is being used at Austin Gardens Environmental Education Center, Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex, John Hedges Administrative Building, Oak Park Conservatory, Longfellow and Fox Centers. Best Green Practices Award For the fourth year in a row, the Park District received the Best Green Practices Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts. is year, we were recognized due to the many sustainability elements recently added at the Oak Park Conservatory, as well as the installation of additional solar panels on the Ridgeland Common roof, composting program at the community centers and our efforts to sort waste at special events. You're Invited! Stevenson Park will be officially re-opened on Saturday, April 18 at 10:00A, and you are invited to celebrate and see the many park improvements. Stevenson Park now features a new accessible entrance, new playground with an accessible surface that looks remarkably like grass, a new game area with table tennis and a 1/5 mile walking loop around the east side of the park. A new hit/kick wall for soccer and lacrosse practice was installed near the sports field, the first such wall in our parks system. In partnership with the Village of Oak Park, a bioswale was installed in the parkway just north of the park. is project was partially funded through a $400,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. We hope you can join us on April 18. Randolph and Wenonah Parks Improvements Randolph Park and Wenonah Park will be closed from early March through the end of May for renovations. Look for swings and a roll hill to be added to Wenonah Park and multigenerational playground equipment and fitness equipment to be installed at Randolph Park. Randolph is the first park in our parks system to feature these two types of unique equipment. If you are looking for a great outdoor workout or a place to take the grandkids, Randolph is your place this summer. Childcare Discount Membership In order to provide equitable access to childcare programs, including e Clubhouse and most full-day summer camps, the Park District is rolling out a discount program for residents beginning for 2020 camps and the 2020/21 Clubhouse program.
