Suminagashi

Suminagashi is the ancient meditative Japanese
practice of gently floating pigments on the surface
of water with a brush and then capturing the mono
print image on an absorbent paper. is exciting
workshop will provide a historical background and
introduce this time-honored technique. Ages 10+

Advance Suminagashi Techniques

Ready to explore more paper marbling designs?
is three-hour workshop will introduce the use of
powdered moss (carrageenan) as a water additive.
Pigments are floated on a liquid surface with the tip
of a brush resulting in colorful, interesting patterns.
Variation in designs will be demonstrated. Advanced
techniques include stencil application, paper tinting
and the use of a wetting agent (resist). Although
Suminagashi level one is recommended, beginners
are welcomed. Each student will increase their
confidence and knowledge of Suminagashi paper
marbling and leave with one. Ages 10+
