Altered Penny Carpet
Saturday, Jul 22, 10:00A-12:00P
In the 1800s, many homes were decorated with
"Penny Carpets" made from miss-matched fabric cut
into circles. Patches were then layered and stitched
together to make a large piece. Students create a
penny carpet with fabric scraps. Each section is
sewed to felt swatches, then joined to make a larger
piece of art. Age 8+

Light Catchers
Sunday, Jul 30, 1:00-3:00P
e beauty of a painting lit from behind was
compelling and unforgettable in the Middle Ages
and still is today. Rather than using fragile glass or
vitreous paint, this project introduces a means of
creating transparent images using acrylic paint and
medium. A painting is created on a piece of film,
then lied away as an integral part of a new surface.
It's similar to mono-printing, but in a clearly unique,
unforgettable way. Age 7+

Middle-Eastern Reflections
Friday, Aug 25, 6:00-8:00P
Welcome to Middle-Eastern art and design. e
emphasis is on geometric patterns which occur
throughout Islamic cultures. Some of these patterns
represent objects found in nature; others demonstrate
the beauty of order and symmetry. More than just
ornamentation, these patterns were created to
transform the object they adorn into something
uncommon and infinite. Using mirror mosaics and
Islamic geometric patterns participants will create a
mosaic of their own design with metallic, reflective
materials arranged on a solid base. Age 7+

No-Fire Nouveau Tiles
Saturday, Aug 26, 10:00A-12:00P
Beginning in the early 1880s, the "Art Nouveau" style
flourished in all forms of art. It blends natural forms
with man-made advances in architecture, design
and manufacturing. Create hand-painted tiles using
tube lining – a technique in which a design outline
was created first and then filled in with color – is the
definitive look of Art Nouveau. Age 7+
