Patches were then layered and stitched together to make a large piece. Students create a penny carpet with fabric scraps. Each section is sewed to felt swatches, then joined to make a larger piece of art. Rather than using fragile glass or vitreous paint, this project introduces a means of creating transparent images using acrylic paint and medium. A painting is created on a piece of film, then lied away as an integral part of a new surface. It's similar to mono-printing, but in a clearly unique, unforgettable way. Intricate designs are applied in repeating patterns, paisley, sun shapes, animals and plants but Mehndi artists enjoy using their personal creativity and vision as well. We will use permanent marker and create radial designs while a glove is being worn. Age 7+ Res Fee $14 - Fee $19 Location: Dole Center - Studio 3 Middle-Eastern Reflections Friday, Aug 25, 6:00-8:00P Welcome to Middle-Eastern art and design. e emphasis is on geometric patterns which occur throughout Islamic cultures. Some of these patterns represent objects found in nature; others demonstrate the beauty of order and symmetry. More than just ornamentation, these patterns were created to transform the object they adorn into something uncommon and infinite. Using mirror mosaics and Islamic geometric patterns participants will create a mosaic of their own design with metallic, reflective materials arranged on a solid base. It blends natural forms with man-made advances in architecture, design and manufacturing. Create hand-painted tiles using tube lining – a technique in which a design outline was created first and then filled in with color – is the definitive look of Art Nouveau. Age 7+ Res Fee $21 - Fee $26 Location: Dole Center - Studio 3 No-Sew Molas Sunday, Aug 27, 1:00-3:00P e wonderfully independent Kuna culture flourishes today in the San Blas Islands located off the coast of Panama. e women make and wear the Mola, a rectangular panel that form the front and back of a blouse. e "no sew" Molas in this class are an easier approach to making a Mola-inspired design.
