24 Little SCAW* (Grades 1-3 in Fall) & Big SCAW* (Grades 4-7 in Fall) Supervisor: Shari Wenzel This unique art experi- ence meets Monday through Thursday for six weeks. All workshops meet for 50 minutes each day and children may sign up for a maximum of three workshops. All materials are included in the fees. Workshops are taught by professional artists. The SCAW Showcase, featuring an art show and dance and theater perfor- mance, will be held Wednesday, July 16! Location: Mann School Min 8/Max 24 Class does not meet: M, Jun 9 or Jul 4 CAMP STARTS ON A WEDNESDAY! Little SCAW / Big SCAW Afternoon Camp Available to campers who are enrolled in (at least) a third period art class in the morning of Little/Big SCAW. Classes are marked in chart on next page with an asterisk (*) next to the title! There will be swimming two days a week, along with some theme days. On Fridays there are no art classes in the morning for Little/Big SCAW, so this camp runs for a full day which may include a field trip and/or other planned on site activities. M-F, 11:50am-3pm, Jun 10 - Jul 18 $510/$765 Little SCAW Afternoon Camp #262010-01 Big SCAW Afternoon Camp e #262010-02 Summer Cultural Arts Workshops Art Mania (Grades 1-3) This mixed media class combines art and science and encourages creativity. Participants will create sculptures, use recyclable materials, create edible art, work on print- making techniques, as well as painting and drawing. Ceramics (Grades 1-3) Children learn the process of building ceramic pieces of art from preparing clay to glazing and firing the finished work. Various age-appropriate projects will be completed. Ceramics - Projects (Grades 4-7) Students will learn basic hand-building techniques and how to glaze and fire their finished work. This class will focus on specific projects created by the instructor and modified for each individual's skill level. Students will also be encouraged to come up with their own creative ideas within each project. Ceramics Open Studio (Grades 4-7) This class is for students who have had some previous experience working with clay. Students will learn basic hand-building techniques and how to glaze and fire their finished work. Projects will be designed by each individual student with assistance provided by the instructor. This class is highly focused on individual creativity. Creative Cooking (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Food is the center of our lives and healthy food that looks good and tastes great enhances our life. From colorful smoothies, veggie pizzas, gluten free snacks, and more, young chefs will create weekly treats, a take home cook book, and explore the importance of a bal- anced diet. Dance Jam Techniques (Grades 1-3) Learn how to dance in sync with a group like you see on the Disney channel, taught by a professional dancer! Explore your own unique dance moves, learn some new dance steps, and "jam" to a variety of music. Focus will be on creating a solid foundation of proper technique. Dancers will also learn and contribute movement material to the final SCAW performance. Draw & Paint (Grades 4-7) We will explore different techniques in drawing and painting. Some of the media we will be using to develop our skills may include graphite, charcoal, pastels, ink, watercolors, and acrylics. Everybody Rocks (Grades 1-3, 4-7) Electric guitars, drums, bass, and vocals give students the chance to experiment with rock band instruments and build musical skills while learning songs of their choosing. Students will start with the fundamentals of playing instruments and develop these skills into an end of the session rock performance. No instrument rental neccessary; class includes use of rock instruments. All skill levels welcome. S.C.A.W. Summer Cultural Arts Workshops Just for ages 14-16, our Counselor-In-Training Program is for teens who are ready to take on a leadership role and help care for children in a summer camp setting! Eligible camps include SCAW. See page 28 for more information. The SCAW Showcase, featuring an art show and dance and theater performance, will be held Wednesday, July 16!
