5 PARK RENEWAL PROJECTS To view details on any of these plans or processes, please visit www.pdop.org. Lindberg Park is Under Renovation The majority of Linderg Park is now closed for major renovation funded in part through a $400,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD grant. The scope of this project includes a new park shelter, renovation of the tennis courts, development of a looped trail system, a new playground, renovation of the ball fields, creation of a dedicated field solely for soccer-lacrosse and an educational native plant area. The tennis courts, tot lot, picnic pavilion and restrooms will reopen by the end of October 2014. Athletic fields are expected to reopen in spring 2015. Carroll Park Improvements Phase II of the Carroll Park improvement project will begin in August. Look for ball field improvements including a new backstop, new spectator and player areas with shade structures, field irrigation and regrading. Also included is a children's discovery area with boulders for sitting and climbing to be located north of the Kenilworth Avenue cul-de-sac. Construction is expected to last through November 2014 however the field will not be re-opened until April 2015 to allow the turf time to get well established. Fox Park Field Upgrades Look for a portion of Fox Park to close in August for the completion of planned improvements including a new backstop, new spectator and player areas with shade structures, installation of an irrigation system, additional benches and field regrading. Per a request from patrons at a recent community meeting, shade structures will be added in the playground sandbox at Fox Park also. This project is slated for completion in September 2014. Longfellow Park Field Upgrades Sports field improvements will also begin at Longfellow Park in August which will include redeveloped ball field spectator and player areas with shade structures, a new winged backstop and fencing around the south end of the park. An irrigation system is already in place in the Longfellow field however some minor regrading will be completed as part of this Phase II renovation project expected to be completed by early September 2014. Field Park Community Meeting Your input is vital in District park planning processes. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 28 at 7pm at Field Center for a community meeting to review the original Field Park master plan created in 2006. To view the plan visit www.pdop.org. Cheney Mansion Greenhouse Project The renovation of the Cheney Mansion Greenhouse is moving along swiftly including replacement of glazing and related framing, restoration of the ventilation systems, installation of a new concrete floor, masonry tuck-pointing, and the addition of double doors on the north side of the greenhouse for easy access. Additionally a restroom is being added on the south side of the greenhouse. This project is on schedule for completion in early August 2014.
