About/Registration:
Winter swim lessons are offered on Wednesdays
and Sundays using the East Pool at Oak Park
River Forest High School. Lessons aim to provide
increased swimming ability, water awareness,
and social growth through a progression of skill
development and instructor interaction.
Swimming is taught in a progression of skill
work from one level to the next. It is important
to master a level prior to moving on. In order
for participants to be safe and learn properly
it is essential to enroll in the level matching
the recommendation from your last class.

Parent Tot Aquatics
Supervisor: Kyle Sandine
This class is for children ages 1-3.5 who have little
or no experience at the pool and are not ready to
be on their own in the water. Your child will learn
to be comfortable in the water through games and
songs. Basic swimming skills will be introduced
throughout the class. One adult companion is
required for each registered child (Adult companion
does not need to know how to swim).

Preschool 1 Aquatics
Supervisor: Kyle Sandine
Prerequisite: Participants should have no fear/
anxiety about water and be comfortable away
from guardians. This class will familiarize the
student with the aquatic environment by focusing
on water entry and exit, supported floating and
gliding, and beginning kicking and arms. Bobs,
blowing bubbles, and fully submerging the head
are developed to increase water comfort. All skill
work in this level is supported by an instructor or
floatation device. Class is held in the main tank of
the pool.

Preschool 2 Aquatics

Prerequisite: Must receive passing permission from
Preschool 1 prior to registering for this level.
The level continues developing the skills introduced
in level 1 by developing unsupported floating
and gliding. An emphasis is placed on using
fundamental leg and arm skills in the freestyle
and backstroke. Streamline position, deep water
bobs, and basic rotary breathing are also developed.
Class is held in the main tank of the pool.

Preschool 3/4 Aquatics
Supervisor: Kyle Sandine
Prerequisite: Must receive passing permission
from Preschool 2 prior to entering this level.
This class continues to improve on the skills of
each stroke while building endurance by extending
the distances traveled using each skill. Skill work
is combined to produce the full freestyle and
backstroke by the end of this class. Underwater
swimming, streamline gliding and breaststroke arm
action are also developed. Class is held in the main
tank of the pool.
