31 Kids Swim 1 Supervisor: Kyle Sandine For participants who are new to swimming and have little experience at the pool. The class will familiarize the student with the aquatic environment and introduce basic swimming skills including floating, gliding, kicking, and alternate arm motion. All skill work in this level is supported by an instructor or floatation device. Min 4/Max 5 Kids Swim 2 Supervisor: Kyle Sandine Prerequisite: Must receive passing permission from Kids Swim 1 prior to entering this level. The level continues developing the skills introduced in level 1 by developing unsupported floating and gliding. An emphasis is placed on fundamental leg, arm and breathing skills in the freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Endurance begins to develop by swimming widths of each skill. Streamline position, deep water bobs, and rotary breathing are also developed. Min 4/Max 6 Kids Swim 3 Supervisor: Kyle Sandine Prerequisite: Must receive passing permission from Kids Swim 2 or Super Swim prior to registering for this level. The level progresses from the previous levels by focusing on the intricate technique of the arms, legs and breathing in the freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Skill work is lengthened to one or more widths of the pool while maintaining the technique of each skill. Butterfly kicking, butterfly arms, dolphin dives, and sitting dives are also developed in this level. This class is for participants who has passed Preschool ¾ or Kids Swim 2 but does not yet have the endurance required for Kids Swim 3. The emphasis is on extending the distance traveled while improving skill work, freestyle and backstroke. Dolphin dives and streamline kicking is also introduced in this class. Min 4/Max 7 Kids Swim 4 Supervisor: Kyle Sandine Prerequisite: Must receive passing permission from Kids Swim 3 prior to registering for this level. Kids Swim 4 places an emphasis on the technique of breaststroke and butterfly. Swimmers continue to refine freestyle and backstroke while developing endurance by swimming longer distances. Diving and treading water are also developed in this level. The level focuses on perfecting the technique of each stroke and extending the distance traveled to build endurance. The level combines the butterfly skill work to produce the full stroke and includes treading water, kneeling dives, standing dives and endurance swimming. Min 4/Max 8 Winter Lap Swim at OPRF (ADULTS ONLY) Lap swim will be offered Sunday mornings using the Oak Park River Forest High School Pool. This is an opportunity for open lap swimming; no instruction is offered. Lap swim requires pre-registration as admission is not accepted at the door. The pool will be divided into slow, medium and fast lanes.
