Learn what you need to do to this fall to prepare your lawn for winter so that a beautiful green lawn will be yours next spring. Min 10/Max 25 Native Seed Harvesting Supervisor: Shari Melde Native plant seeds germinate best when treated as naturally as possible. Learn how large native seed nurseries replicate the natural process of seed disper- sal and germination to produce a variety of native plants for your garden. Min 6/Max 20 Leaf Mulching Supervisor: Shari Melde Gardeners are becoming increas- ingly aware of the benefits of using leaf mulch in their gardens. Join the experts on soil amendments from Midwest Trading, a local wholesale company dedicated to sustainable practices in your garden, to learn about mulching. Discussions will include how to improve the soil in your garden as well as the benefits and applications of creating leaf mulch. This is a free class but registration is required. Min 10/Max 25 Succulent Pumpkin Creations Supervisor: Shari Melde Create a fall tablescape using succulents grown on top of pumpkins and gourds. You will learn about select- ing the right succulents and how to affix a beautiful arrangement on top of a pumpkin. Fall colors shine through in these unique arrangements that you will be able to take home and enjoy for months with proper care. Note: Registration is required one week in advance of start date to allow class materials to be purchased for all participants. Min 8/Max 15 Enchanted Pumpkins - KIDS! Supervisor: Shari Melde Bring your favorite princess with you to the class to create a princess carriage out of pumpkins and gourds. Spend the morning carving and decorat- ing a carriage that is fit for any princess, then take your creation home to enjoy! Crafters will also enjoy tea and cookies at the event! Note: Registration is required one week in advance of start date to allow class materials to be purchased for all participants. Minimum: 8 pairs / Maximum: 15 pairs Min 8/Max 15 Eco-Art for Thanksgiving - KIDS! Supervisor: Shari Melde Make Thanksgiving artwork with Mother Nature's ingredients like leaves, berries, sticks, moss and other materials gathered from nature. Take home a turkey made of leaves or a Thanksgiving pie with berries or any other creation you can dream up! Take the artwork home to display throughout the holiday! Min 6/Max 12 Winebox Containers Supervisor: Shari Melde Create a beautiful floral centerpiece for your Thanks- giving table using wooden crates. Learn how to create a large centerpiece that will wow your guests. We will use a mixture of dried, silk and fresh materials that will create a long lasting display in your home. Registration is required one week in advance of start date to allow class materials to be purchased for all participants. Min 6/Max 10 Winter Containers Supervisor: Shari Melde With the approach of fall and winter, learn tips and tricks to continue your outdoor containers through the colder months ahead. Participants will learn about selecting plants for colder-month containers and learn design tips to create unique winter decor. Go home with your own planted container! Material cost included in the class fee. Note: Registration is required one week in advance of start date to allow class materials to be purchased for all participants. Min 6/Max 12 Winter Branches Supervisor: Shari Melde Create a winter wonderland in your home by learning to decorate with fanciful iced branches. Come in for this workshop on how to add a whimsical feature to your Christmas tree or winter bouquet. Participants learn how to dip branches for an inexpensive twist on your holiday décor. Participants will take a bundle of iced branches home. Note: Registration is required one week in advance of start date to allow class mate- rials to be purchased for all participants. Min 6/Max 10 Fall Scavenger Hunt September 5 - 27! FREE PRIZES Supervisor: Shari Melde Families will enjoy exploring fall landscapes and looking for items outdoors. Pick up a list of what you will be scavenging for or download a list online. Visit www.pdop. org/fallscavengerhunt for details and to participate! Bring your completed collec- tions to the Oak Park Conservatory during Fall Fest and receive a prize (first come, first served, while supplies last)! Starts September 5. Limited to 75 prizes.
