"A primary source experience"
KidsConnect is Pleasant Home's themed field trip experience consisting of prep materials for
teachers, tour of the home, worksheets to be completed during the tour, and an off-site activity.
Suitable for grades 6 and up
This field trip offers students an exercise in distinguishing between primary and secondary
sources, formulating questions from main ideas, and creating an original argument.
Students will experience a fun and engaging tour of Pleasant Home, where the primary
and secondary sources that were used to create the tour script will be displayed in each
room. Guides will emphasize how those sources informed their presentation, providing an
example of how to draw conclusions from original documents and artifacts.
Students will then be tasked with:
1) devising a sample thesis statement based on the tour of Pleasant Home
2) identifying a displayed primary source to support their argument.
