Field Trip Preparation & Activities p.5 Off-Site Preparation On-Site Activity Before the field trip, students should have a general understanding of primary and secondary sources. The following defini- tion of sources will be reviewed on-site: • Primary Sources – "voices from the past"; any original source material. • Secondary Sources – use primary sources to analyze and interpret events, people, or places. "Main Ideas" Worksheet, 45 min A worksheet will be completed during a tour of the home, reinforcing the main idea of each room, and to prepare students for the "thesis statement" post-activity. Post Activity "Thesis Statement" Activity, 1 hr,15 min After the tour, students will have the opportunity to examine the primary and secondary sources displayed in each room. Students will: • Use their "main ideas" worksheet and displayed sources to devise a sample thesis statement about Pleasant Home • Choose a primary source that could be used to support their argument • Describe how their chosen primary source supports their argument. Summaries of sources will displayed, and schools will be provided copies of summaries for students' reference off-site.
