Skaters will learn to make quicker and precise movements and transitions by further developing the stride, stopping and backward skating. This level also introduces hockey skills that are necessary at the travel level. Equipment Required: skates, shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads, gloves, helmet, and stick. # of classes: 8 Polar Bear Hockey League (PBHL) Ages 6-13 Supervisor: Kyle Sandine The Polar Bear Hockey League or PBHL has been revised to provide an opportunity for our hockey players to actually play the game. These cross ice games will feature roughly 15 minutes of game overview followed by 45 minutes of play (3 12-minute periods). The Park District of Oak Park program believes that 1 weekly lesson is not enough to become better a hockey player and must be complemented by more practice, ice time, and play. As such, signing up for a hockey lesson for the instruction should be complemented by PBHL game play where players can learn to apply their skills. The PBHL is also an excellent segue for those players wishing to get a feel for the game aspect before beginning a travel program, but also enough for those not wishing to travel. Class does not meet: 03/27 # of classes: 8 Hockey - Youth Spring Ice Bears Hockey League - New Player Registration Begins January 11, Season runs March 21 - June 5 Ages 6-13 Supervisor: Mike Luishniak The Oak Park Ice Bears are a competitive youth travel hockey team that compete in the Northwest Hockey League.
