Workshop participants will prepare and inoculate logs with shiitake mushrooms, learn to care for and grow the mushroom log, and learn how to harvest their mushroom crop. is is an active workshop where you will be using power tools, getting dirty, and doing some liing. Take home two inoculated logs to start your own mushroom farm. Please wear appropriate clothing for this workshop and bring work gloves, if you have them. Material cost is included in the class fee. Min 5/Max 10 Urban Veggie Gardening Supervisor: Shari Melde Urban veggie gardening has never been bigger. Learn the tips and benefits from some of the most successful Chicago urban veggie patches and how to bring them home to your place of work, school or home. Each participant will create a raised vegetable garden to take home with home grown Conservatory vegetable plants. Min 6/Max 16 Quick Sketch Garden Design and Consultation Supervisor: Patti Staley Landscape Design & Garden Consultation services available at the Oak Park Conservatory every first Tuesday of the month from 1-3pm (February thru October). Bring in photos of your garden for our professionals to offer help with planting suggestions & a quick sketch as time allows. Registration required. ree one-hour time slots are available each session. Min 1/Max 1 Container Design Series Supervisor: Shari Melde Come and create your spring planters with our design expert! Have help in flower selection and arrangement to create spectacular containers for your home. Bring your own container or choose from one of ours. All material provided. Section 1 is for Spring Containers; Section 2 is for Fall Containers; Section 3 is for Winter Containers; Choose Section 4 for all three for a discounted fee of $115. Class dates: 5/14, 9/17, 12/3. Min 5/Max 9 Plant Shopping Road Trip!! Friday, May 20, 9:00A-4:00P Join the Conservatory Horticulturists for a special day filled with guided plant shopping. Make it a girls day or a special outing for garden enthusiasts. We will depart the Conservatory at 9am and visit three favorite garden shopping spots. Shady Hill Gardens in Elburn, IL will be our first stop to shop their famous selection of Geraniums, annuals, herbs and perennials in their stunning Dutch glass greenhouses. Next on our stop is Johnsons' Statuary nestled along the Fox River in Downtown St Charles. Our final destination will be shopping some of the best Midwestern perennials and natives at Midwest Groundcovers and a guided tour of their trial gardens. Return to the Conservatory at 4pm. Gourmet box lunch will be provided. Min 8/Max 13 Activity: #235214-01 Res/NR: $50/75 Ages: 18+ Cheney Mansion's All Ages, All Abilities Community Garden With the assistance of our participants, volunteers and Sugar Beet Schoolhouse, the gardens grew over 800 lbs. of fresh produce that was delivered to the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry. Plans have begun for the 2016 growing season and there is a need for volunteers, seedlings, gardening tools and additional funds.
