Mills Family
Members of the Foundation staff and board have enjoyed spending time
with descendants of Herbert and Leonie Mills (second owners of Pleasant
Home), including a recorded interview with Fred Mills, Jr. (grandson). The
family graciously donated an original portrait of four generations of Mills
(left, Herbert Mills is standing) along with other important memorabilia. Their
generosity of time and institutional memories are greatly appreciated by all!
Petite Boutique Holiday Market
The Pleasant Home Holiday Market had a face-lift this
year, becoming a venue for gourmet foods, unique
hand-crafted gift items and creative works of art, all
of the highest quality. Over 600 guests attended the
three-day market and all thirty vendors are eager to be
part of the 2016 event!
Silent Movies on the Porch
Back by popular demand, this regularly sold-out series attracts viewers of
all ages with old-fashioned entertainment on Friday evenings in August.
Each evening over 100 guests enjoyed live piano accompaniment by
Thomas Holmes while watching silent movies, many for the first time!
Ice Cream Social
Neighbors and supporters of Pleasant Home flocked to
the grounds of Mills Park to enjoy an old-fashioned ice
cream social event. In partnership with the Pleasant
District Association, the Park District of Oak Park and
Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor, over 300 guests were
treated to live music, activities and of course, ice cream!
