Mountains make an incredible journey to their
overwintering sites in Mexico. From Oak Park,
that is 1,728 miles! Join us as butterfly enthusiast
Janie Grillo explains this amazing event. She will
also discuss how citizen scientists assist in learning
more about this migration by tagging monarchs
for Monarch Watch, a nonprofit education,

the University of Kansas. Nature permitting, live
monarchs will be tagged and released from the
Conservatory at the end of the presentation. Fee is

All mulch material used in our parks, specifically in our
landscape beds and around tree rings, consists of recycled,
end-of-life crane and access matting and 100% locally
harvested urban timber material.
Crane and access mats are manufactured locally and consist of hardwood species, primarily Oak. is
matting has been used in environmentally sensitive areas for habitat protection, as well as agricultural
land protection and more general-use construction. All mat material has been cleaned and is free of weed
seed, soils, and pathogens. No trees are removed directly for the making of our mulch products.
