61 www.pdop.org Youth Special Interest Chess Scholars Supervisor: Amanda Heiman No previous knowledge of chess is necessary: players of all levels are welcome. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both new and returning participants will get to the next level under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess Belt under a unique Chess Scholars system patterned aer martial arts belts. ere will also be a chess competition with prizes at the end of the session! Ages 5-12 Min 10/Max 20 Chess Scholars Workshop Supervisor: Amanda Heiman is workshop is designed for players who already know the basic moves. e program will include fun, interactive learning from a renowned Chess Scholars coach as well as a mini-tournament with prizes. Each child will receive a participation award. Please bring your own snacks. Ages 5-12 Min 5/Max 20 Magic Class Supervisor: Amanda Heiman Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn fascinating tricks from professional magician Gary Kantor. Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, you'll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and will learn tricks that are age-appropriate. Additionally, you can sign up for this class again and again since brand new tricks are taught each session! Ages 5-12 Min 5/Max 35 Guitar Rocks! Supervisor: Amanda Heiman Guitar Rocks gives children the chance to experience playing and learning the guitar. Simple chords are used and songs are played and sung as a class. Melodies are explored using one or two strings to help students learn the fretboard as well as basic pick control. Little guitars are provided for class so that little hands have a chance to learn proper musical technique on the right-sized instrument. No experience, instrument purchase or rental required!
