About Pleasant Home Pleasant Home is a National Historic Landmark building designed in 1897 by noted Prairie School architect George W. Maher for investment banker and philanthropist John W. Farson. Pleasant Home is one of the earliest and most distinguished examples of Prairie architecture in the country and has one of the best-preserved interiors of that design era. Visitors experience extraordinary art glass, custom furniture, intricately carved woodwork, and unique design details in this architectural treasure through guided tours. e Pleasant Home Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1990, is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and operating this 30-room landmark as a historic house museum. Tours Tours are offered year-round to individuals and groups, including school groups. Our tour program is the perfect hands-on learning experience to complement a curriculum encompassing history, arts, or architecture. June Revel Fundraiser Saturday, June 23, 7:00-10:00P You are cordially invited to join us for our 5th Annual Gala Fundraiser. Maher Monday, May 20, 2:00P in Blue Island, IL As part of a continuing series of tours investigating the work of Prairie School architect George W. Maher, Pleasant Home Foundation of Oak Park travels to Blue Island, Illinois, to explore the historic Sanders School, built by Maher in 1900. Guests will enjoy a brief lecture prior to a private walking tour. All-inclusive ticket includes a cocktail reception at the Blue Island historical society. Tickets are $20 general, $30 exclusive at pleasanthome.org Silent Movies on the Porch Fridays in August Porch opens at 7:30 / Movies at 8:15pm Enjoy classic silent films with live piano accompaniment on the front porch of Historic Pleasant Home. Children and kids-at-heart are entertained by turn of the century games, professional juggler, a blue grass band and, of course, ice cream! Open to public. Tour & Tea - By appointment Pleasant Home Foundation and Serenitea Café present "Tour & Tea" for small groups of two to six guests including an hour long guided tour of Pleasant Home and a relaxing formal tea in our airy Summer Dining Porch. Complete with a personalized tea pot, finger sandwiches and small desserts. By appointment, $40 per person, reservations required at least 3 days in advance.
